Description
A Chinese blue and white plate, finely potted with gently rounded sides rising to an everted rim, painted in the central medallion with a seated sage with long flowing beard and robes, accompanied by a standing attendant carrying a parasol over his shoulder, both set beneath an ancient pine tree in a rocky riverside landscape with distant mountains. The scene enclosed within a narrow line border and surrounded by a broad cavetto richly decorated with two five-clawed dragons striding amongst clouds in pursuit of flaming pearls, interspersed with a soaring phoenix. The exterior painted with three pairs of alternating flowering and fruiting branches. The base inscribed with a six-character Wanli reign mark in underglaze blue within a double circle.
