Description
The maiolica pavement for the high choir of Herkenrode Abbey was commissioned in 1532 and made in Antwerp by the workshop of Guido di Savino, known there as Guido Andries, at Den Salm. Its square tiles typically carry a figure, animal or foliate motif within a circular band. Approximately 500 tiles from the floor were acquired by the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels in 1888.
