The elegant and unusual triple-gourd vase is finely painted in underglaze cobalt blue with a dragon striding amongst flames above a rocky landscape. The dragon winds around the compressed globular upper body and continues onto the tall neck, its scales, flowing mane and animated features rendered with the vigorous brushwork. Stylised cloud scrolls encircle the stepped gourd-form foot, echoing the celestial setting of the principal decoration.

The vase is of finely potted triple-gourd form with a tall cylindrical neck and a neatly finished recessed base enclosed by an unglazed foot rim.
