描述
The inscription reads: ‘江西督糧道信官裕昆叩,道衲安來儀叩化.’ It identifies Yukun as a devout official serving as Jiangxi Grain Intendant and records his contribution. The monk An Laiyi is named as the person who initiated the fundraising and solicited donations for the undertaking.
Yukun was a Manchu of the Bordered White Banner. A directory from 1871 records him as a langzhong in the Tuntian Section of the Ministry of Works and as a supervisor of the imperial kilns. In February 1880, he was recorded as the former Ba-Chang Circuit Intendant in Zhili. By 1883, records identify him as Jiangxi Grain Intendant, when he returned to Beijing following his father's death. After the hundred-day mourning period, he was ordered to resume service as a langzhong at the Ministry of Works.
His tenure as Jiangxi Grain Intendant can therefore be dated approximately to 1880–1883. The candlestick was likely made during this period, although it bears no explicit date.
