Description
A finely potted Kraak plate with the characteristic panelled decoration, beautifully painted in soft underglaze cobalt blue. The rim on the front is divided into eight panels, each decorated with alternating flowering branches and water plants, interspersed with narrow panels filled with dot and diaper motifs. The central medallion depicts a grasshopper on rockwork beneath a butterfly, with a flowering peony to the right and luxuriant curling clouds above. The reverse is similarly divided into panels, decorated with alternating lingzhi and insects. Between the panels are stylised cloud motifs. The centre bears a rare and finely executed egret mark.
