Description
A finely potted Kraak plate with the characteristic panelled decoration, beautifully painted in soft underglaze cobalt blue. The rim on the front is divided into ten panels, each decorated with flowers, some with insects or birds. The central medallion depicts a grasshopper perched on a rockwork beneath a butterfly, flanked by flowering plants and blossoms, with luxuriant curling clouds above. The reverse is similarly divided into panels, decorated with alternating lingzhi and insects. Between the panels are stylised cloud motifs. The centre bears a rare and finely executed egret mark.
